In Subiaco Subiaco, also known as Subi, is a suburb located in the inner-western part of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It falls under the jurisdiction of the City of Subiaco local government region and is situated approximately 3 kilometers (1.9 miles) west of Perth’s central business district. Originally a working-class area with a combination of industrial and commercial activities, Subiaco has gained recognition as one of Australia’s most prominent urban regeneration projects since the 1990s. Within the neighborhood, notable educational institutions include Subiaco Primary School, Perth Modern School (the state’s only academically selective public school), and Bob Hawke College. Prior to European settlement, the Noongar Indigenous people inhabited the region. In 1851, Italian Benedictine monks arrived in the area and named it after Subiaco, Italy, where the founder of the Order of Saint Benedict, Benedict of Nursia, began his mission.
